Silver Celebrations at Malvern 2010

The RHS Malvern Spring Gardening Show is 25 years old and will be celebrating its silver anniversary in style when it opens to the public on Thursday 6th May 2010.

Organisers will be celebrating more than two decades of gardening innovation and excellence on the Three Counties Showground, where a special anniversary garden will be designed by James Steed, Alex Bell and Claire Potter.

The garden has been designed to capture Malvern’s unique appeal and features blocks of meadow grass with fruit trees, a pool and troughs under-planted with ornamentals.

As part of the celebrations, nurserymen and women from all over Britain will be compiling a short list of favourite plants for a Best of the Best signature collection. There will also be a Birthday Exhibition, celebrating the Show’s history in stories and photographs.

Local schoolchildren will be trying to predict what the garden of 2035 and beyond might look like and David Matthewman , of Matthewman Sweet Peas, will be saying it with flowers in the shape of a highly visual birthday cake made entirely from the fragrant blooms of the sweet pea.

Visitors to Malvern’s Spring Show can look forward to 17 Show Gardens ranging from a Welsh railway crossing to an outdoor Quaker meeting room. Candidates for this year’s Chris Beardshaw Mentoring Scholarship will be creating 8 circus-themed gardens while over 100 of the country’s top nurseries will be exhibiting in the 1.7 acre Royal Horticultural Society Floral Marquee with thousands of blooms.
